A pediatrician gives a child a healthcare examHealth professionals across all areas of medicine and public health agree that climate change is a serious and urgent threat to human health. A growing body of research now offers guidance on how the healthcare sector can respond to climate change and protect communities. This work also highlights ways for healthcare professionals to stay motivated and hopeful while tackling such a large and complex problem.

Abstract

Health professionals from every corner of the health sector—from allergy to vascular surgery, from epidemiology to environmental health, from nursing to hospital administration—have recognized the magnitude and urgency of the climate crisis. A growing literature provides guidance on how to conceptualize and meet the vast challenges we face and on how to keep our spirits up as we do so.
